CASIO "Waves Place" Collaboration Announcement

This project is a collaboration in which five composers from DOVA-SYNDROME (renamed OpenTracks from September 15) create and provide original music using only the vintage keyboard sound sources “VL-1,” “SK-1,” and “MT-40,” available through CASIO Waves Place.

Featuring the unique, warm retro sound characteristic of CASIO keyboards from the 1980s, these original tracks will be released as free BGM. They can be used in a wide range of settings, including video production, live streaming, and game development.

As with all other audio available on this site, the tracks can be used free of charge for both commercial and non-commercial purposes, by individuals and organizations alike, provided that the applicable license terms are followed.

We hope you look forward to the release of these free BGM tracks.

Participating Composers

We received a large number of applications from composers registered with our site who shared the vision of this project. Following a rigorous selection process conducted by CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD., the following five composers have been selected to create music for this collaboration. The selected composers will receive a fee from CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD., as well as the “Waves Place” sound sources (VL-1, SK-1, and MT-40).

Ryuzaki Hajime

Reason for Selection (CASIO):
With a proven track record that includes creating tracks such as “Onaji Tsuki No Shita,” which has surpassed 580,000 views, as well as extensive experience as a member of the music unit “Losstime Life,” Ryuzaki brings a unique combination of pop, rock, and electronic musical expression to this project. In particular, participation with a vocal track offers a rare perspective among the selected composers, and we are very interested to see what kind of world the CASIO vintage sound sources can create when used in vocal music. We were also impressed by Ryuzaki’s desire to take on the challenge precisely because the available sounds are limited, which demonstrates a strong connection with the spirit of this project.

SAKURA BEATZ.JP

Reason for Selection (CASIO):
We were particularly impressed by SAKURA BEATZ.JP’s extensive experience providing music for idols and artists, as well as a strong track record including receiving an award in the art and music category for Blue Archive’s 2nd Anniversary and having music used at a dome concert by Kanjani∞. Their expertise in electronic dance music, making full use of synthesizers and programmed production, is highly compatible with CASIO’s sound sources. We have high expectations for seeing how the vintage sounds can be brought to life within polished electronic productions. Their experience expanding from stage and theatrical music into BGM production also demonstrates a high level of adaptability to this project.

Edamame88

Reason for Selection (CASIO):
We felt that Edamame88’s ability to make effective use of deliberately “cheap-sounding” tones, as demonstrated in tracks such as “Love it Rabbit,” was a perfect match for bringing out the charm of the vintage sound sources featured in this project. Their strength in creating pop-oriented, game-inspired music also makes their work highly versatile and practical as BGM. We were strongly drawn to both their extensive production experience, developed under the motto of adding color to everyday life, and their thoughtful approach to understanding the history and characteristics of the sound sources, and ultimately decided to select them for this project.

Masaki Takao

Reason for Selection (CASIO):
Takao’s solid technical skills, developed through composing music for films and television dramas, can also be seen in a diverse range of widely enjoyed tracks, including BGM with a playful “cooking show” feel and music evoking the excitement of a boys’ summer vacation. His versatility across genres and professional level of quality are major strengths from the perspective of creating practical, widely usable BGM. Although he had never worked with the original hardware, we highly valued the genuine curiosity he expressed toward the sounds that defined an era. We are very much looking forward to seeing how he will creatively interpret these sound sources.

Kei Morimoto

Reason for Selection (CASIO):
Kei Morimoto’s sparkling and charming electronic sound has a particularly strong affinity with the character of CASIO’s vintage sound sources. Their expertise in electro, EDM, and chiptune is an ideal match for making the most of the distinctive characteristics of these sounds. We were also impressed by the consistently high quality of their music and mixing, as well as the level of refinement demonstrated by their extensive production experience. We are very excited to see what kind of “Kawaii Electro” sound Kei Morimoto will create through this collaboration.
